Hi, I'm Edie!
My goal is to teach you about Executive Dysfunction.

First I need to explain Executive Function skills.

Executive functions (EF)  are a group of skills involved in goal-directed behavior.

EF skills can be thought of as our brain's project management system. Organization, planning, motivation, focus, flexibility, time management, emotional regulation, and self reflection all fall under the EF umbrella.

Wait, I should write an outline before I start talking.

People with executive dysfunction (ED) have deficits in one or more EF skills.

They can struggle to organize their thoughts, break large projects into steps, and prioritize tasks.

Oh, but it needs to be FUN! I want to draw some cute graphics, but I can't find my favorite pencil...

They may lack focus, be forgetful, disorganized, or unable to follow multi step directions.

I don't know where to start and I'm running out of time and I'm so overwhelmed right now!!

They often have a poor sense of time and are unable to estimate how long a task will take. Sensory overload can lead to emotional dysregulation.

Effie, help!!

I'm here, Edie!
Why don't we head over to the next section and I'll help you explain executive dysfunction?
